Friends of Moorfields is a vital part of the Moorfields Eye Hospital community, supporting patients and staff for over 60 years. Today, a network of over 350 volunteers provides a range of services to support the work of the trust and improve patient experience, from directing visitors, staffing the information desk and operating the Friends shop and trolley service, to assisting in the pharmacy and offering emotional support to patients during procedures.
Friends operates the Health Information Hub at Moorfields City Road, a dedicated space where patients can drop in for a relaxed chat, get more information about their eye conditions and learn how to access helpful services. Staffed by two qualified Eye Clinic Liaison Officers as well as trained volunteers, the Hub provides accessible, non-medical, Moorfields-approved information, signposting and support for patients and carers.
Friends also support the Richard Desmond Children’s Eye Centre by funding the salaries of health play specialists to help young patients have the best possible experience.
If you would like to volunteer with Friends of Moorfields, you can find out more here, or call the Friends office to learn about what’s involved. Volunteers have the opportunity to join a vibrant community, make a tangible difference, and develop new skills.

The work we do wouldn’t be possible without people like you. Whether you’d like to make a one-off donation or give a regular amount, your contribution will help us do more to support the patients and staff at Moorfields.
The Friends of Moorfields are passionate supporters of the hospital and I am extremely grateful for the vital contributions you continue to make. From providing volunteers to help our patients around the hospital to raising money and funding specialist equipment, you make a huge difference to the hospital, our staff and our patients.
