Strabismus (Squint)

The following information provides a guide for GPs on how to manage or make a referral for presentation of Strabismus (Squint) in children.

Referral information

Always include:

  • Optometrist referral letter (if available)
  • Child’s date of birth
  • Address
  • Child’s social worker details (including Borough), if any

 

GP Management

 Squint - teens/parents

Re-refer if:

  • Squint visible or worsening condition
  • New Symptoms relating to a squint e.g. (new onset) double vision, eye strain, headaches during close work
  • Significant psychosocial concerns relating to a squint e.g. bullying
  • Parents / carers / child would like surgery
