Siegfried Wagner, vitreoretinal fellow at Moorfields, has been named among 10 Rising Stars by The Ophthalmologist Power List.
Siegfried has been a key part of Moorfields’ research team, particularly with the recent developments in creating artificial intelligence (AI) tools to detect signs of disease, such as dry age-related macular degeneration (AMD), retinopathy of prematurity (RoP), Parkinson’s disease and schizophrenia.
He was also part of the team that developed and presented RETFound, the first AI foundational model in ophthalmology, which was trained on 1.6 million eye scans to detect signs of several different diseases.
The annual Ophthalmologist Power List highlights the 100 most influential people in the world of ophthalmology. Rising Stars can only be nominated by Power List alumni, to celebrate truly excellent ophthalmologists early in their career, but following their own paths and forging new connections to advance the world of ophthalmology.
Our congratulations go out to Siegfried for this achievement. We look forward to sharing more of his exciting work in AI.
