I’ve been short-sighted since the age of nine and have worn glasses - and later, contact lenses - for most of my life. As I reached my 50s, this was compounded by a need for glasses for reading as well. I also had yet another pair of glasses for playing the piano. Life became rather complicated, so I started to explore surgical options to correct my vision.

Why Refractive Lens Exchange (RLE) surgery? I had some early signs of a cataract, and my consultant recommended this procedure with Toric lenses to correct my vision and make sure it doesn’t deteriorate due to the cataract.
My refractive lens exchange surgery means I’ve traded my glasses for glissandos and my lenses for legatos. I wish I’d done it sooner.
From my initial enquiry and consultation through to the surgeries (I’ve opted to treat each eye separately) and final check-up, I’ve been completely happy with the entire experience. Everyone I encountered was not only professional but also warm and kind. Although I was initially a little anxious about the procedure itself, the nurses and my consultant put me completely at ease.
My vision has improved beyond all my expectations. I no longer need glasses or contact lenses. I can now clearly see the sheet music and keyboard when I play the piano.
