Jess – a carefree traveller

At my consultation, I learned that I couldn't undergo laser eye surgery due to my high prescription and thin cornea, which was a huge disappointment. However, my consultant suggested implantable contact lenses as an alternative to improve my vision and provided a detailed explanation, as I was only vaguely familiar with the procedure.
Following the consultation, I received a wealth of useful information from Moorfields Private, and my additional questions were answered thoroughly and promptly. After considering the professional advice and conducting my own research, I decided to proceed with the implantable contact lenses.

On the day of the surgery, I was extremely nervous, but the fantastic team of nurses, the anaesthetist, and my consultant made me feel at ease. The procedure took less than an hour for both eyes. It was painless, though slightly uncomfortable in one eye at one point, but it didn't hurt. It felt like watching a bright light show, without anything scary. Immediately after the surgery, although I felt a bit groggy, my vision was almost perfect. I was discharged the same day, and we even went out for dinner that night.

I was prescribed eye drops to support the healing process, which required some planning for timely administration. Additionally, wearing eye shields for the first few nights took some getting used to and was probably the most challenging part of the process.

At my follow-up appointment, my vision was measured, and my consultant took the time to answer more of my questions. I now have better than 20/20 vision and have never seen so clearly before. It's a significant change for me.

Now, I don't start my day by patting my night table for my glasses. It's wonderful to just get up and go. While on holiday, I can swim and enjoy spa treatments without needing to remove my glasses or deal with contact lenses. I no longer need to think about contact lens care, and it feels incredible.
